Platform Guidelines

What has no place here, how to tell us, and what we do next.

Last updated:

Starting point

These Guidelines apply to all User Content: causes, updates, comments, messages and profile names.

1.1. Causfy is an open platform. Different and opposing positions coexist on it, and a Cause does not become inadmissible for being controversial or for arguing the opposite of another.

1.2. The ordinary way to respond to a Cause you disagree with is to start another one, not to request its removal.

1.3. Whoever publishes a Cause is answerable for its content. Causfy neither endorses it nor verifies its truth.

Content that is not allowed

2.1. Unlawful activity. There is no place for content that constitutes unlawful activity, promotes it or facilitates its commission.

2.2. Hate and discrimination. There is no place for content that attacks or demeans people or groups on grounds of origin, ethnicity, nationality, religion, beliefs, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, illness or any other personal or social circumstance. This includes coded language used for that same purpose, and content that spreads or endorses organisations promoting hatred.

2.3. Protection of minors. There is no place for content that puts minors at risk. Distributing child sexual abuse material results in immediate removal, closure of the Account and a report to the competent authorities. A minor’s data or images may only be published by whoever holds legal responsibility for them.

2.4. Harassment, threats and impersonation. There is no place for content aimed at intimidating, degrading, harassing or threatening a person, nor for impersonating people, entities or organisations. Criticism must address facts and decisions, not the personal characteristics of whoever takes them.

2.5. Violence. There is no place for content that incites violence, glorifies it or endorses those who carry it out, nor for the gratuitous distribution of particularly graphic images or descriptions. Where distribution is justified in order to expose something, its nature must be flagged.

2.6. Self-harm. There is no place for content that promotes, glorifies or trivialises self-harm or suicide, nor for content giving instructions for it. Covering these subjects for educational or supportive purposes must be preceded by a warning.

2.7. Other people’s personal data. There is no place for publishing other people’s personal data without authority to do so, including home addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, identity documents, bank details and images taken in private settings.

2.8. Deception. There is no place for a Cause based on facts the publisher knows to be inaccurate, on a non-existent beneficiary or on a purpose other than the one stated. Where a relevant statement is disputed, its author may be asked to substantiate it.

2.9. Defamation. There is no place for content attributing false facts to a person that damage their reputation.

2.10. Sexual content. There is no place for pornographic material or the distribution of sexually explicit material, by any route, including links to external sites.

2.11. Intellectual and industrial property. There is no place for publishing someone else’s content without the owner’s authorisation, or for using third-party names, distinctive signs or logos without their consent.

2.12. Commercial use and bulk messaging. There is no place for using the Platform to sell products or services, insert advertising or send unsolicited bulk messages.

2.13. Misuse of the Platform. There is no place for automated access, large-scale data extraction, creating multiple Accounts to circumvent a restriction, or any action aimed at interfering with the operation of the Platform or circumventing its security measures.

Rules specific to causes

3.1. Matching its purpose. A Cause must serve the purpose for which it was created. Later changes may refine, clarify or update it, but not alter what is being requested or the purpose for which Support was obtained.

3.2. The Recipient. The person identified must be able to deal with what is requested. Addressing a Cause to someone unconnected with the matter does not make it more effective and may harm it.

3.3. Content produced with automated assistance. It is subject to these Guidelines in the same way as any other. Its origin excuses no breach.

Reporting a breach

4.1. Anyone, whether or not they have an Account, may report content they consider contrary to these Guidelines or unlawful.

4.2. Reports are made through the contact form or to the following address, stating the content concerned and the reasons:

  • Content, legal requests and complaints:

4.3. Reports are dealt with within twenty-four to forty-eight working hours. Where further checks are required, the person reporting is informed.

4.4. Emergencies. If the content reveals an immediate risk to a person’s life or safety, local emergency services must be contacted first and Causfy informed afterwards.

Measures

5.1. Where a breach is found, the content may be removed, excluded from the public catalogue, prevented from being promoted, or the Account suspended temporarily or closed.

5.2. The least severe effective measure is applied, except in particularly serious or repeated cases.

5.3. Every measure is notified to the person affected, stating the reason.

5.4. The removal of a Cause does not affect Support already given or the records generated.

Appeal

6.1. The person affected may appeal against the measure within six months of being notified.

6.2. The appeal is examined by a person other than the one who took the decision and is decided with reasons within a maximum of fifteen calendar days.

6.3. Appeals are sent to:

  • Accounts and causes:
